What does the word 'Revit' mean?

EDIT: Steve from Revit OpEd has provided clarification based on his association with some of the founders of the software – see link below:

David Conant says: “The Revit name is an invented word designed to imply revision and speed.”

I posted a quote from one of the earliest members of the Revit team on my blog:

http://revitoped.blogspot.com/2006/06/what-does-revit-mean.html

David Conant says: "The Revit name is an invented word designed to imply revision and speed."

He goes on to provide some other name options they considered as well.

Interesting stuff Steve…its funny that the Autodesk address in my post above supports the 'Revise Instantly' definition – but I think that the Revit team member would know better obviously.

I don't mind the sound of 'Synchronix'.

I seriously doubt that article was written by someone inside Autodesk with an intimate knowledge of Revit prior to the purchase. David was the third person hired by RTC and part of the name discussion so he's a bit more credible to me anyway 8-). Also Irwin's comment in the quoted portion is relevant…Irwin is one of the two founders of Revit…Leonid being the other.

Cheers!

While 'revise instantly' may not have been "revit's" original meaning, Revit used 'revise instantly' in some of their early marketing material. For instance, in 2001 they describe the function of Revit as:

"That change will instantly modify the geometry of the wall — without any explicit action required by the user. This, in turn, will "revit" (or revise instantly) all plans, elevations, sections, schedules, dimensions and other elements."
